Shanghai to Host the Fourth Classic Piano Preliminary Competition
The journey towards the fourth edition of the Classic Piano International Competition continues in Shanghai, with the Shanghai Classic Piano Competition serving as the fourth of six international preliminary contests that will determine the finalists for Classic Piano 2028 in Barcelona.
Taking place from 10–12 August 2027, the Shanghai competition will bring together outstanding young pianists from around the world, who will perform before a distinguished seven-member international jury specially assembled for the occasion. Following preliminary competitions in London, New York and Seoul, Shanghai will mark the fourth stage in the global search for the next generation of exceptional pianists.
Competitors will perform across two rounds, competing for a €35,000 prize fund and, most importantly, the opportunity to secure entry to the prestigious, invitation-only Classic Piano International Competition. Selected finalists will receive the chance to compete at the Grand Finale in Barcelona from 10–20 September 2028, hosted at the iconic Palau de la Música Catalana.
With all expenses covered for selected finalists and a total prize fund of €330,000 awaiting competitors in Barcelona, the Grand Finale will offer not only substantial monetary prizes but also a range of special awards and professional opportunities designed to support the development of outstanding young pianists.
The application deadline for the Shanghai Classic Piano Competition is 25 April 2027.
As the international journey towards Classic Piano 2028 moves to its fourth destination, Shanghai promises to be another major gathering of young musical talent, bringing together pianists from across the globe in a celebration of artistry, excellence and international competition.
