Salih Can Gevrek Performs Special Prize Concert with Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra
On 7 May 2026, pianist Salih Can Gevrek appeared as soloist with the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra at the Lütfi Kırdar Asım Kocabıyık Anadolu Auditorium in Istanbul, in a concert conducted by František Macek. The performance formed part of a distinguished special prize awarded to Gevrek by Eleanor Hope following his success as a finalist of Classic Piano 2024.
Recognised for his refined technique and poetic musical approach, Gevrek delivered a compelling interpretation of Alexey Shor’s Suite for Piano and Orchestra No. 2 “From My Bookshelf”, presented in its concert version by Mikhail Pletnev. The performance also marked the Türkiye premiere of the work, bringing audiences into a colourful and imaginative musical world inspired by literature and storytelling.
Under the direction of František Macek, the orchestra continued the evening with Der Freischütz Overture by Carl Maria von Weber, capturing the dramatic contrasts and mystical atmosphere of German Romantic opera. The programme concluded with Romeo and Juliet Overture by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, performed with sweeping lyricism and emotional intensity.
The concert represented an important artistic occasion for Salih Can Gevrek following his participation in Classic Piano 2024, further highlighting his growing international presence and musical maturity.
