The recital, entitled Three Late Masterpieces, presented a profound and thoughtfully curated programme featuring Mozart’s Piano Sonata in D major, K.576, Olivier Messiaen’s La Fauvette des jardins, and Beethoven’s monumental Sonata in B-flat major, Op. 106 (“Hammerklavier”). The evening offered audiences a rare opportunity to experience Mr Donohoe’s deep artistic insight, particularly in Messiaen’s work, which he studied directly with the composer and Yvonne Loriod, and in the formidable Hammerklavier Sonata.

This recital stood as a highlight of the season at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and reflected Peter Donohoe’s enduring contribution to musical performance, education, and artistic excellence. His presence as a jury member of the Classic Violin Olympus continues to be a source of great honour, underscoring the competition’s strong connection with artists of the highest international standing.
