International Jury Announced for New York Classic Piano Competition

23 October 2026

The New York Classic Piano Competition 2027 has officially announced its distinguished international jury, bringing together seven renowned pianists and pedagogues who will evaluate some of the world's most promising young musical talents from 2–4 June 2027.

Serving as the second of six international preliminary competitions leading to the prestigious Classic Piano International Competition 2028 in Barcelona, the New York edition promises to be an important milestone in the international search for the next generation of outstanding concert pianists.

The seven-member jury will be chaired by internationally acclaimed French pianist Michel Béroff, who will be joined by Xiaohan Wang (China), Jeffrey Cohen (USA), Nikita Fitenko (USA), Robert Levin (USA), Yoheved Kaplinsky (Israel/USA), and Soo-Jung Shin (South Korea).

Bringing together internationally recognised performers and influential educators, the jury reflects the competition's commitment to artistic excellence, musical individuality, and the discovery of exceptional young talent. Their collective experience across international concert stages, leading music institutions, and the world of classical piano performance will ensure a rigorous and inspiring competitive environment.

Taking place from 2–4 June 2027, the New York Classic Piano Competition will welcome talented young pianists from around the world to compete for a total prize fund of €35,000, comprising a First Prize of €20,000, a Second Prize of €10,000, and a Third Prize of €5,000.

Beyond the financial awards, the competition offers an exceptional opportunity for participants to advance their international careers. The two highest-ranked contestants will earn eligibility for the invitation-only Classic Piano International Competition 2028, scheduled to take place from 10–20 September 2028 at the magnificent Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona.

The Barcelona Grand Finale will feature an extraordinary total prize fund of €330,000, with expenses covered for selected finalists and further opportunities designed to support the professional development of emerging pianists.

Following the opening preliminary competition in London, New York will represent the second stage of the six-city international selection process leading to Barcelona 2028. Bringing together distinguished international juries and talented young performers, the preliminary competitions provide an opportunity for aspiring pianists to demonstrate their artistry on an international platform while taking an important step towards one of the most significant events in the Classic Piano calendar.

With its distinguished jury, substantial prize fund, and direct connection to the Barcelona Grand Finale, the New York Classic Piano Competition 2027 promises to be an exciting celebration of musical excellence and a valuable opportunity for the next generation of concert artists.

Pianists wishing to participate are invited to submit their video applications before the deadline of 15 February 2027.
