Classic Piano International Competition Announces Its Largest and Most International Edition Yet for 2028Classic Piano International Competition Announces Landmark 2028 Edition in Barcelona

The Classic Piano International Competition is set to return in 2028 with its most ambitious and globally expansive edition to date, as the competition celebrates ten years since its founding with a landmark fourth edition at Barcelona’s iconic Palau de la Música Catalana.

Taking place from 10–20 September 2028, the competition will bring together exceptional young pianists from across the world for what promises to be the largest edition in the event’s history — combining international reach, major media visibility, substantial prizes, and exceptional artistic opportunities on an unprecedented scale.

Open to pianists of all nationalities aged 15–30, Classic Piano 2028 dramatically expands its international footprint through a worldwide system of preliminary competitions held across six major global music capitals: Seoul, Vienna, New York, London, Rome, and Shanghai.

Throughout 2027, these prestigious qualifying rounds will seek out the finest emerging pianists from every corner of the globe, with only the top two performers from each city progressing to the Grand Finale in Barcelona.

The final stage of the competition will unfold at the magnificent Palau de la Música Catalana, where finalists will perform alongside the Franz Schubert Philharmonic before an exceptional 23-member international jury featuring leading conductors, artist managers, agents, and influential music industry professionals.

With a remarkable €330,000 prize fund, extensive international media coverage, and direct exposure to major figures within the classical music profession, the 2028 edition is designed not simply as a competition, but as a powerful international launchpad for the next generation of concert pianists.

By combining worldwide talent scouting, high-profile artistic collaboration, and one of Europe’s most celebrated concert venues, Classic Piano 2028 aims to establish a new benchmark for international piano competitions.

As it enters its second decade, the competition continues to strengthen its mission: creating meaningful career opportunities for young artists, expanding global access to elite performance platforms, and building one of the most visible and influential showcases for emerging pianists on the international stage.
