Zhiquan Wang Advances to the Ljubljana Festival Competition 2026
We are pleased to announce that Chinese pianist Zhiquan Wang, finalist of the Classic Piano International Competition 2024, has successfully passed the preliminary round of the Ljubljana Festival Competition 2026 and will take part in the upcoming edition of this prestigious international event.
Born into music at an early age, Zhiquan Wang began studying piano at just four years old. By the age of eight, he was admitted to the Music Middle School affiliated with the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where he currently studies under the guidance of Z. Tang. Despite his young age, Wang has already built an impressive international profile, performing with renowned ensembles such as the New Russia State Symphony Orchestra, the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, and the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra, and appearing at major international music festivals worldwide.
His rapid artistic ascent has been marked by outstanding competition successes. In 2025, he won First Prize and four Special Prizes at the 66th Jaén International Piano Competition in Spain, becoming the youngest winner in the history of the competition. In 2024, he was awarded Fifth Prize and two Special Prizes at the Classic Piano International Competition in Dubai, where he reached the finals, further confirming his status as one of the most promising pianists of his generation.
At the Ljubljana Festival Competition 2026, Zhiquan Wang will present an ambitious and demanding repertoire across all rounds. His programme spans from Beethoven’s “Waldstein” Sonata and Ravel’s La valse to monumental works such as Brahms’ Variations on a Theme of Paganini, Balakirev’s Islamey, and Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3. This wide-ranging selection highlights both his technical command and his musical maturity.
Zhiquan Wang’s participation in the Ljubljana Festival Competition 2026 marks another important milestone in his already remarkable career. We look forward to following his artistic journey and wish him every success in the forthcoming stages of the competition.
