Andrey Gugnin, Winner of Classic Piano 2024, Performs in Bremen
The winner of the Classic Piano International Competition 2024, Andrey Gugnin, recently appeared in concert as part of Auf schwarzen und weißen Tasten III, the closing event of the Bremen piano festival. The recital took place on Saturday, 17 January 2026, at 19:30 and marked the grand finale of the festival, presented in cooperation with Radio Bremen Zwei.
Born in Moscow in 1987, Andrey Gugnin is widely regarded as one of the most spectacular pianists of today’s international piano scene. Following his victory at the highly prestigious Sydney International Piano Competition in 2016, his career has taken him to the world’s leading concert halls, including the Vienna Musikverein, Carnegie Hall in New York, and the Sydney Opera House. His extensive discography, encompassing both solo recitals and piano concertos, has received numerous international awards and has firmly established him at the forefront of the contemporary piano world. Most recently, in November 2023, Gugnin was awarded the 12th International German Piano Prize, endowed with €20,000.
For his Bremen recital, Andrey Gugnin presented a powerful and virtuosic programme centred on monumental ballet transcriptions. The evening featured Tchaikovsky’s Suite from “The Nutcracker”, Stravinsky’s Trois mouvements de “Pétrouchka”, Pletnev’s concert suite from Tchaikovsky’s “Sleeping Beauty”, and Agosti’s transcription of Stravinsky’s “The Firebird”. The programme highlighted Gugnin’s exceptional technical brilliance, orchestral imagination, and commanding stage presence.
This concert not only celebrated Andrey Gugnin’s outstanding artistic achievements but also reaffirmed his status as a leading figure of the international piano scene, following his triumph at Classic Piano 2024.
