The third edition of the Classic Piano International Competition has now reached its halfway point, with all 35 participants who successfully made it to the second round now having presented their performances.

Over the past few days, the Zabeel Theater at the Jumeirah Zabeel Saray hotel in Dubai echoed with the sounds of seminal masterpieces as each competitor took to the stage in turn to showcase their musical abilities over a 50 minute solo recital. 

Following the last performance of the 15-member jury panel, made up of Ashley Wass (UK), Zhe Tang (China), Hüseyin Sermet (Turkey), Marios Papadopoulos (UK), Giuliano Mazzoccante (Italy), Hae-Young Kim (South Korea), Stanislav Ioudenitch (USA), Eleanor Hope (Austria), François-Frédéric Guy (France), Pavel Gililov (Austria), Peter Donohoe (UK), Kirsten Dawes (South Africa/Germany), Epifanio Comis (Italy), Massimiliano Caldi (Italy), and Gisèle Ben-Dor (USA/Israel), deliberated together for several hours before drawing up the list of 18 contestants that will be moving on to the competition's penultimate round. 

Listed alphabetically by order of performance, these successful participants are:

These talented pianists will now be enjoying a brief respite to prepare for the third round, which starts on the 16th of February. During this phase, they will be required to present two compulsory pieces – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Piano concerto No. 20 in D minor, K. 466, and the contemporary Suite for Piano and Orchestra No. 2 'From My Bookshelf', from Composer-in-Residence Alexey Shor and Mikhail Pletnev. 

In a break from the format of the first two rounds, each participant will now be accompanied by a symphonic orchestra for the remainder of the competition, namely the renowned Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, who shall be led by Founder, Artistic Director, and Principal Conductor Sergey Smbatyan. 

Once this phase is complete, jurors will once again gather to draw up the final shortlist of 9 candidates who will proceed to the final round. These finalists will all be guaranteed a share of the competition's €250,000 prize fund, with the First Prize winner going home with €100,000 in cash and the promise of a 10-concert tour with a total honorarium of €50,000.

More than ever before, the pianists will now also have to contend with the pressure of the world press on their shoulders, with various major international platforms having descended upon Dubai to report on this final stretch of the competition. These include among them Euronews, Medici.tv, and Bachtrack, who will be publishing various reports throughout the duration of the event, while also ensuring that the events in Dubai will be shared with the world in real-time. 

In fact, the entirety of the third and fourth rounds of the competition will be broadcast globally on medici.tv, who will also be sending one of their senior presenters to host a series about Classic Piano itself, including the events on stage, various full -length interviews, and behind-the-scene segments offering a glimpse into the proceedings. As part of this series, medici.tv will also be presenting a live studio show featuring a variety of esteemed experts within the world of classical music. Euronews, meanwhile, will also be sending a team from their CULT department to the UAE for this project, who shall be creating segments that will be published on the Euronews website as well as broadcast on their media channels.
