Korean pianist SooJin Cha, living in Salzburg, began her piano studies at age 11.
She studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, University of Music, Drama, and Media in Hannover and University Mozarteum Salzburg with Michael Krist, Stefan Arnold, Matti Raekallio, Olivier Gardon, Pavel Gililov and Andreas Groethuysen.
SooJin has won awards in numerous international piano competitions, such as 1st prize and the ‘Special Prize by The Mayor of The City of Vienna’ at the Vienna International piano competition (2004), 2nd prize at the Bösendorfer Piano Competition (2007), 1st prize at the “Gradus ad Parnassum”(2010), where she also won the “Austrian Prize for Classical Music”, 2nd prize at the Delia Steinberg International Piano Competition (2013), 1st prize and the Best Interpretation Prize of Chopin at the Rosario Marciano International Piano Competition(2014), 2nd prize at the Premio Jaén International Piano Competition (2016), 2nd prize at the Austrian Piano Open International Piano Competition(2017), 2nd prize at the Rome International Piano Competition(2018) and Golden Medal at the Manhattan International Music Competition(2020).
